Welcome to the weekly edition of Aftermarket Report, where we wrap up the week in the markets and take you through everything that mattered, both in India and globally.
What data points and transformations do you want to see?
We’re also experimenting with a weekly edition of the Aftermarket Report, and we’d love to know what you’d find useful in it.
Unlike the daily report, the idea here is to step back from individual trading sessions and look at the bigger picture — what changed over the week, where trends are building, how sectors and themes are moving, how positioning has shifted, and what the data tells us when viewed over a longer timeframe.
We’re exploring everything from weekly market breadth, sector and thematic trends, F&O positioning and flows to volatility, commodities, global markets, and more. But we want to know what you would like to track.
What data points, transformations, ratios, comparisons, charts, or indicators would make a weekly market wrap genuinely useful for you?
Tell us what you’d like to see. Your feedback will help us shape the weekly edition of the Aftermarket Report.
Weekly market performance
Nifty surged 8.58% for the week to close at 25,030, reclaiming its long-term trendline amid a sharp market recovery. However, broader participation remained weak, with 222 stocks hitting fresh 52-week lows against 220 new highs, while India VIX climbed to 17.47.
Nifty closed 4.8% above its 40-week moving average for the first time in 26 weeks, signalling a potential trend reversal. However, only 39.9% of NSE stocks trade above their 200-day moving averages, while elevated volatility suggests the broader market recovery remains incomplete.
What is the macro backdrop doing?
India's 10-year government bond yield declined 24 basis points to 7.21%, while the rupee strengthened to ₹93.98 per dollar. Crude oil plunged nearly 15% during the week, while gold and silver gained 2.66% and 3.16%, respectively.
Reversal strategies outperformed momentum this week, with the previous week’s weakest stocks gaining 4.92% against 2.55% for the strongest. Only 31% of recent breakouts held, while momentum has outperformed in eight of the past 13 weeks, highlighting inconsistent market leadership.

We’re in Week 45 of 2026, and what a week it was! After weeks of weakness, NIFTY staged a remarkable recovery, gaining 8.6% and closing above the 25,000 mark. All five trading sessions ended in the green, marking NIFTY’s biggest weekly gain in nearly six years.
The rally also saw NIFTY reclaim all its key moving averages, while financial services and realty stocks led sectoral gains. But uncertainty hasn't disappeared just yet. India VIX jumped 14%, precious metals remain under pressure, and global developments around US midterm elections, AI investments and crude oil continue to influence market sentiment.
We also look at NIFTY's trading ranges, expiry data, options positioning, and a simple trend-following strategy based on the 50-hour EMA. With Muhurat Trading around the corner, we also look at what the options market is pricing in and the key events to watch in the coming week.
That’s it for this edition. We’d love to hear your feedback in the comments, and feel free to share this with your friends to spread the word!
